The competition, now in its 5th year, aims to recognise and reward excellence in the British workforce. WOTY is free to enter, and is open to anyone aged 17 and over (at the date of the launch) who works in the UK. Sponsored by Dickies and Suzuki, the winner of this year’s competition will drive away with a Suzuki S-Cross car, a Suzuki V-Strom 1000 motorcycle or a Suzuki ATV Quad. Furthermore, they will also stand the chance to win a cash prize of £100 000.

Competition Details

The 2014 WOTY competition will be promoted around the country, beginning at the British Superbike Championship meeting at Brands Hatch on the 18th of April. Entries will close at the beginning of September.

The winner of the competition will then be announced at the final round of the British Superbike meeting at Brands Hatch on the 18th of October. The lucky winner will also be given the opportunity to predict the outcome of a race on the final day – if they guess correctly, they will also receive a cash prize of £100 000.

Competition runners up, meanwhile, will be awarded holiday vouchers in recognition of their efforts.

Previous Winners

Last year, Judi James, a farmer from Littlebreddy in Dorchester, was crowned the 2013 Dickies Worker of the Year.

“This competition has changed my life and the car will help me so much with my work. I would urge anyone who hears about the competition to have a go at entering or to nominate someone as an entrant. It costs nothing except a few minutes of time and those few minutes could prove to be incredibly worthwhile,” said Judy.

Finalists from last year’s competition included electrician Mark Hughes, Nottingham fire safety watch manager and school site manager Ray Burton, panel beater Michael Hill, Bath rescue and recovery manager Ian Woolcott, Lincolnshire plumber Paul Dove, heavy vehicle technician Wayne Timbrell, and roofer Dean Gerstel.
